Whitethorn is a sweeping work which deals with many of the issues of today, set in the recent past of South Africa and Kenya.

It's a doorstop of a volume - it could easily have been two or three books - and so it's taken me 3 weeks to find enough time It was only Bryce Courtenay's death which led me to read this book - the first of his works I /5.

"Whitethorn" was highly recommended by a friend here at the Zululand Yacht Club who was helping me understand Apartheid and its aftermath in this troubled country. After looking at the Bryce Courtenay web site and reading the bio material included there, it is pretty obvious that this book is largely autobiographical/5().
